INTRODUCTION

Welcome to TK-FAX, an exciting new office automation product from Patterson, Gray and Associates. We believe that TK-FAX can simplify the way that you do business and save you countless hours in the daily task of sending messages using electronic facsimile services.

The purpose of TK-FAX is to provide a simple and efficient means of creating, sending and monitoring facsimile messages through the convenience of each user's CRT terminal.

Before we get started with the details of how to use and configure TK-FAX, we probably should answer some of the questions that you have concerning this product.

What is a fax server? You are most likely familiar with PC-based fax software that allows the user to send a fax from his or her own computer out over a fax/modem to a remote fax machine. But rather than just providing personal services, a fax server provides these same services to one or more individuals who are on the same computer network.

Because a fax server is handling multiple faxes at the same time, it usually has more sophisticated control, status and statistics facilities. In fact, because TK-FAX is able to handle almost all of an organizations outgoing faxes, it can be used as a corporate tool for careful and effective communications while maintaining audit trails and usage statistics.

What can be sent
with TK-FAX?
TK-FAX is designed to send computer information. This information can be a document from a word processor, a patient's medical record, a client's portfolio or perhaps messages from an electronic mail facility.

It is best suited for sending ASCII text, although there are provisions in TK-FAX for embedding graphic images that have been converted to a fax data format. Because TK-FAX does not have graphics conversion facilities, Patterson, Gray and Associates will provide a mail-in service to scan your particular graphic requests as needed. Give us a call if you have further questions concerning embedded graphics.

How does
TK-FAX work?
Briefly, without going into all the details:
- you select the computer information to send,
TK-FAX then-
- Makes a quick copy of it,
- Converts it to a fax image,
- Dials the remote fax machine using a fax/modem,
- Transfers the fax image,
- Hangs up the line and waits for your next fax.
